Coptic Christians Face Religious Persecution And Death

With the ongoing religious conflicts in Egypt and other parts of the Middle East, regarding Muslim opposition to Christians worshipping freely, it is easy for some to forget the freedoms people enjoy in the West. As Christians we must exercise our right to worship God without hindrance or fear of retaliation. We must retain our faith through the trials and tests of life. No one should deprive us of these freedoms, as to do so would constitute serious human rights abuses.

"We know many Christians have left," says Mounir Ramsis, speaking not only about this quarter but about all of Egypt. "But we love this country and will stay until death."

Tuesday, 31 January 2012 20:15 - Orissa, India, January 31 (Compass Direct News) – A Hindu extremist in Adigar, Phulbani, Kandhamal district on Jan. 25 attacked a pastor’s hut and harassed his family, according to the Global Council of Indian Christians (GCIC). Jaleshwar Pradhan threw stones at the home of Pastor Patiba Mohan Kota while he was away, verbally abused his wife and pushed his daughters, shouting, “You Christians must not live here – it is not your land; the last time your houses were only damaged, this time all of you will be buried here,” the GCIC reported. Though damage to the house was minimal, the pastor and his family were anguishing in fear as Hindu extremists have previously tortured him physically, causing partial loss of eyesight and hearing, reported the GCIC. Christianity is the largest religion in Nigeria, but Muslims seek to bring Shariah Law to the nation by force, resulting in open conflict and casualties.

In Egypt, authorities were on high alert over the holiday season, due to past incidents, with the hope of preventing violent attacks on Coptic Christians in the region, who have faced violence from Muslims. The bloodshed is unnecessary. People need to learn to dwell peacefully in their respective nations and not resort to violence as a means of getting one's point across.
