With the ongoing religious conflicts in Egypt and other parts of the Middle East, regarding Muslim opposition to Christians worshipping freely, it is easy for some to forget the freedoms people enjoy in the West. As Christians we must exercise our right to worship God without hindrance or fear of retaliation. We must retain our faith through the trials and tests of life. No one should deprive us of these freedoms, as to do so would constitute serious human rights abuses.

Tuesday, 31 January 2012 20:15 - Orissa, India, January 31 (Compass Direct News) – A Hindu extremist in Adigar, Phulbani, Kandhamal district on Jan. 25 attacked a pastor’s hut and harassed his family, according to the Global Council of Indian Christians (GCIC). Jaleshwar Pradhan threw stones at the home of Pastor Patiba Mohan Kota while he was away, verbally abused his wife and pushed his daughters, shouting, “You Christians must not live here – it is not your land; the last time your houses were only damaged, this time all of you will be buried here,” the GCIC reported. The nation of Nigeria is torn and divide over Muslims engaging in church bombings against Christians, killing dozens of people at Christmas once again. Christianity is the largest religion in Nigeria, but Muslims seek to bring Shariah Law to the nation by force, resulting in open conflict and casualties.

In Egypt, authorities were on high alert over the holiday season, due to past incidents, with the hope of preventing violent attacks on Coptic Christians in the region, who have faced violence from Muslims. The bloodshed is unnecessary. People need to learn to dwell peacefully in their respective nations and not resort to violence as a means of getting one's point across.

Presidential candidate, Rick Perry, has taken President Obama to task again in his newest ad. Texas governor Perry, promises to protect America from Obama's "war on religion." President Obama has done a number of things that deeply offended Christians, namely his attack on the faith, marriage and more recently, publicly chastising the U.S. Congress for a simple, but poignant measure to reaffirm America's motto "In God we trust." President Obama is consistently showing opposition to the Christian faith, the largest religion in the world and one he used to get elected, then quickly turned his back on.

With the race for the White House heating up, politicians are making pleas to the church for votes. America's religious majority is the Christian faith. So often politicians play on the church's good nature in seeking office. However, as Christians, we must look past all the political rhetoric and earnestly look at the deeds of those seeking office.

Does the candidate's track record on matters of the faith, such as honoring marriage and human life, including the unborn but alive via pregnancy, square up to how God defines it in the Bible. If not, that is not someone that deserves your vote. No one is perfect, but at the end of the day, if people of the faith vote for those that oppose what we believe, said politician will go into office and enact laws and create policies that go against all we hold dear.
